This Saturday, the #SPFC women’s team beat their biggest rivals in the Brazilian final, in front of around 50,000 people, reportedly a record attendance for women’s club football in Latin America. Only afterwards did I discover that Brazil’s men’s national team was also playing that day.

I was checking all the vice-presidential candidates and was reminded of Brazil’s small parties on the left: PSTU, PCB, PCO and UP. I’d never realized so clearly before how, despite their differences, these parties tend to occupy the more radical end of the political spectrum.

Will the American regime, seemingly on the verge of democratic collapse itself, try to interfere in the democracy of the largest country in its “backyard”? Of course. Even when US democracy was far more stable, Washington intervened in Latin American democracies. Why expect otherwise now?

Sorry, I’m not sure I fully understand what you mean. Personally, I prefer Mastodon, but I don’t condemn people for using Bluesky. I also think people on both platforms should work together where possible, especially when it comes to protecting democracy.

@everton137.eurosky.social Much longer. During the dictatorship we had memories of democracy, though with authoritarian interruptions. East Germans had only known dictatorship, basically since forever, although with brief democratic episodes.

A curious personal note: I was born in the early 1980s, when Brazil was still under a military dictatorship. Our current Constitution was adopted in 1988, and the first direct presidential election after the dictatorship took place in 1989.
