1. This is incredibly nasty and disgusting work by Stephen A. Smith. Lane Johnson has publicly discussed his mental health and the work he's put in since 2021. 2. What does anything he said have to do with the question on the ticker? How did they get here?

I dunno, I’m ok with a playing a new interpretation of this game and it’s still not going to stop me from firing up my childhood copy of the original on my still working childhood N64 hooked up to my Sony Trinitron CRT.

For the record I am personally excited for the game and think the new style looks great. I have played the original to death. I can breeze through that game in a couple of hours now and play through it a couple of times a year. So what I’ve seen of the remake so far looks great.

I follow a lot of gaming people on here as well as people who I generally follow for news and political takes, and the latter being way more excited for the Ocarina of Time remake further proves the average “gamer” is hopelessly trapped in a bubble.

From journal editing experience, LLMs appear to be *undoing* the good research of non-English speaking scholars. You can see signs of a solid study in a manuscript that chat or claude et al - used for "editing only" - have otherwise *wrecked*. I keep suggesting they try again without AI "editing."

there is no rhyme or reason to an entire “AI” department, much less an AI school. There is no curriculum, as such, because AI is not a school of thought. It has no theory, no method. It’s just a tool. Two or three courses, max, if someone is obsessed with it should suffice.

Saber finally added the AI disclosure to Steam for Rideshare “Stimulator” and it’s even worse than I said it was. I can see why the CEO crashed out when I pointed it out.
Al Generated Content Disclosure
The developers describe how their game uses Al

Generated Content like this:
The main Campaign story, characters, and dialogue are written by a team of human writers. Al tools are used for voice generation and some localization.

The optional Free Ride mode includes Al-generated passenger missions and localized dialogue. Free Ride mode is separate from the main Campaign and can be skipped by players who prefer to experience only human-written narrative content.

The game also includes a mix of radio stations featuring human-made music and Al-generated music. Stations containing Al-generated music are clearly labeled as such in the game.

Sports can be a diversion from "real life" and it's totally fine to view them this way. But any notion that they are "supposed to be" this ignores the lived reality of any sports league, team, player, or fan. You can't celebrate Jackie Robinson as a hero and say "sports are a diversion."

I’m learning that the people who gamified paragraphs are having trouble reading books. www.axios.com/2026/08/11/r...

AXIOS

Al has become my reading buddy as I've plowed through my summer book list, helping me keep track of plots and characters, unpack themes, and make sense of wordy, old prose.
• Why it matters: The way many of us actually read books - a few pages before bed, a chapter at the beach, another on a plane - makes it easy to lose the thread. Al can help you pick it back up without starting over.
Ш I really got into using Al while reading James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans." The text was far too dense for casual vacation reading. My first prompt asked:
• "T'd like a guide as I read The Last of the Mohicans who can help me understand what I've read and where the story is, without giving spoilers or getting ahead of my progress. Can you do this, chapter by chapter?"
• The robot agreed: "Cooper's sentences are long and his diction is archaic."

The assumption that people who still buy physical media are wealthy enthusiasts I think is wrong. I think people with less wealth are relying on used games, libraries, lending, etc., so this move makes video games an even more out of reach luxury accessible only to the wealthy.

I am surprised hardly anyone is pointing out how hostile this decision is for people who already own a large amount of PS4/5 discs already. If the PS6 is backwards compatible it will surely not support a disc drive. Which means 1 in 5 people cannot play their library on new hardware.

There’s obviously a lot that’s wrong here but one major component here is the delusion among a surprisingly large portion of parents that their kid is gonna get an athletic scholarship and go to the Olympics, and a truly courageous public official _might_ find a way to break the bad news to them.
