Roughly 75% of the facility’s detainees are listed as “noncriminal” by ICE. Many have no experience in detention. And as the facility has expanded, 911 calls have, too. We reviewed calls that described overdoses, mental health crises, sexual assaults, and stabbings and other fight injuries.

We spoke with a man who was beaten while he experienced a panic attack, with a gay detainee who was threatened regularly, with a father who struggles to talk to his family because of the pain their distance causes him, with a man who watched fellow detainees be beaten for refusing to eat.
