I saw someone say they needed AI to write their passive aggressive reply mails. And man, couldn't be me.

Ah, frustrating conversations with web hosting customer support. At this point it's almost nostalgic. Almost.

This picture will always be iconic. RIP Margaret Hamilton who wrote the software that successfully guided NASA’s Apollo missions through the moon.

Same. Philosophy shouldn’t have to justify itself instrumentally by supplying skills to other “practical” fields. The value of philosophy lies in how it expands your horizons, how it forces you to think differently and deeply about the world.

Moral panics are manufactured concerns created to push an agenda, don't hold up under scrutiny, and the fallout always harms more people than will ever be helped. Stand up for trans people.

it is nearly impossible for new artists, animators, or programmers to share their work without a swath of people accusing it of being AI. the only way to avoid that is to have proof that your project existed before gen AI. i think this ignorance ultimately helps normalize AI more than anything.

I've heard other people who made new profiles have similar issues. Whatever automated systems they have for spammers and bots just don't work properly anymore. Having to verify your linkedin profile with an actual ID is wild and feels borderline illegal

Also throwing rector De Sutter under bus even though she didn't interfere when he was hired is so typical. Goes to show that when you defend these types because of 'scientific neutrality' you will reap what you sow.

We're doing a huge disservice to kids (and young adults) by shielding them from everything that might be 'too hard' or 'too difficult'. They can figure that out for themselves, challenge is good!

what is art if not derpy cat faces
Detail of a 17th century painting called Still life of fish by Joannes Fijt. There's a grey and white cat behind a wooden tub, surrounded by fish and crab. The cat's face is wonderfully derpy. Picture taken at Snijder & Rockox House, Antwerp.

So in Hans Achterhuis' book on Hannah Arendt, he brings up various journalists and authors who covered the Nuremberg trials (to compare it with Arendt's coverage of the Eichmann trial) and wow, everything they say about those men could be said about the people in charge today
