Republicans' fear of fake socialism in the United States is bringing about real fascism in the United States. Mainly because they are too ignorant to know the difference.

Harry Truman once said, “Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.” He was right then, and Republicans are proving him right today. Watch.

There’s a strong likelihood that we are living in the last period of normalcy in this world. Politically, economically, meteorologically, water and food security, and so on. So yes, do the things and say the things. And do your best to plan for what is difficult to plan for.

A timeless lesson from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) is that while Nazis are evil, billionaires who hoard wealth and seek eternal life may be even worse. And bonus evil if they’re Nazi billionaires.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

I’ve also been thinking about the level of assistance provided for printing - whether from a public computer, phone, laptop, usb stick - how much help many library patrons need with this. That help could determine choices for printing along with cost and location.

We’re at the point in the pandemicine (and have been for awhile) where capitalism and personal freedom are more important than stopping the spread of covid, measles, avian flu, meningitis and hantavirus, among other viruses. There’s no going back from this.

Your local librarian here to say that it’s great if you read lots of books this year, alright if you read barely anything, that audiobooks, romance and graphic novels are all valid formats and genres, and that some authors suck but we’re still not stopping you from reading them.

Sagan felt that the dumbing down of America was most evident in the rejection of science and the growing ignorance of history, art, literature, music and the humanities. If we're to reserve course, we need to revive mass education and literacy.

Chatbots and AI slop are going to ruin countless brains. Yours doesn't have to be one of them. Study history. Read poetry. Get acquainted with Bach, Shakespeare, George Eliot. In a time when people are rapidly getting dumber, we need communities devoted to the life of the mind.

What "they" don't understand is that our resistance to what they define as "hard work" very rarely has anything to do w/ the work being "hard." It's about us feeling controlled, trapped, or "in trouble"-- all of which frequently trip a combination of "freeze" & "fight" in us.

I'll say it explicitly: ADHD is a neurotype. ADHD isn't a disease that we caught one day. ADHD is a lifelong, congenital, genetic difference in neurological development. ADHD changes how and when we develop cognitive and executive function, and it changes how we view and interact with the world
