and yes, before anyone asks, I am absolutely familiar with Pascal Jousselin's Mr. Invincible (as it's called in English)! As good as I thought it was when I just seen a few pages online, when it finally came out in english, I was shocked how relentlessly creative he was page after page - so good!

Cover to Mr. Invincible, and interior page - in which using his powers to see the layout of the page, mr. invincible rescues a cat in a tree not by climbing the tree, but by reaching down to the panel below him and grabbing it that way. It's pretty fun - and only in comics!

in my talk today, as an example of the strange things you can do in comics given their sequential but also spatial/simultaneous nature, I included this gonzo panel from 1950s Batman, which I just love in all its weirdness! Yes, I have more intentionally clever examples, but something about this...

Chart from FRED, the Federal Reserve’s statistical database. Shows the resident population of the Los Angeles-Anaheim-Long Beach MSA from around 2010 to now. The population line starts at 12.8 million, goes straight up, and peaks at 13.3 million in 2017. It sort of levels off at 13.2 million until 2020-2022 where it falls off a cliff. 2025 resident population was only 60,000 people higher than in 2010.
