My stock response to the folks now saying they include “just a little AI” in their shitty games.
Buddy, if you used AI for some of it, I can only assume you used AI to do all of it. Hell, I assume you used AI to write this email.

Hardest of passes.

(It's not wild. The purpose of that nerd urge to explain every wondrous mystery in a beloved piece of fiction is to flatten it out and make everything soothingly smooth so you don't have to think about it anymore.)

LycanthrEppy @epidiah.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Wild how when science explains a mysterious wonder it somehow gets even more intriguing, but when a sequel or prequel explains a mysterious wonder it inevitably gets far less interesting.

Bluesky right now is better for me than Twitter ever was even at its peak. While it’s definitely not an echo chamber - I wouldn’t care if it was. I’ve heard enough bigotry and anti-science garbage in my life to know what their arguments are. I don’t need to hear it every day to be educated on it.

A common misapprehension. Most people aren't aware of it now but up until the early eighties any author releasing a book had to support it by releasing a promotional single of them performing a classic song. These rarely charted but John Le Carré's Dancing Queen is much sought-after by collectors.

Had a dream last night that I met someone with a novelty hotdog-shaped cellphone and I was deeply jealous. Kind of a shame we attached our pocket computers to smart phones, instead of letting them remain two separate devices so that phones could be free to follow their natural evolution.
An old timey corded telephone with a transparent case so you can see it's delightfully colored innards.

Astronomy news for spooky season: a zombie planet orbiting a dead (but still hostile) star. Evidence suggests the following: Star dies, expels outer layers, becomes white dwarf. Gas giant forms from the debris. White dwarf is now blasting planet with radiation, shearing off some of its atmosphere.

Oh! Baleful Beasts and Eerie Creatures! I was obsessed with this book in grade school. I remember it convinced me that I wanted to be a writer, but I couldn't remember why until I tracked it down decades later on the Internet Archive… Check out that artwork: andre-norton.com/contents/fou...
An illustration of a creepy patchwork doll with black button eyes, a thin, red, unsmiling mouth across a stark white face, a collar of tiny bells, and a little fish hook embedded in the palm of its creepy little hand. In the back ground a young girl is silhouetted by a thunderstorm through a living room window. She is in some sort of distressing pose.

To be fair, though, just the existence of Texas Chainsaw Massacre had already terrified me. You'd hear whispers about this movie, that it was based on a true story. I don't think I even saw a poster for it until I was a teenager. But you were always hearing about friends of friends who saw it.

A radio ad for Return of the Living Dead that included the part of the film where they ask the dead woman why they want to eat brains so badly and she says it eases the pain of being dead. The pain of being dead. The threw a hell of a metaphysical crisis into my tween soul.
