Mega #bikebus videos are so fun... but you do not need 200 people, celebrity guest & police escort to start a bike bus! A few friends + a little organizing can be a game changer. Good one from @nikkimcentee17.bsky.social #bikedc @ggwash.org ggwash.org/view/105077/...

You don’t need a huge group to have a bike bus — just ask these parents. Read up ahead of National Walk & Roll to School Day on October 7.

what really matters is the ordering of your choices matching that of the group. If half of the group ranks 1st, 2nd as "Morillo, TKL" while the other half does "TKL, Morillo", 2nd choice doesn't count for either group until the 1st is seated or eliminated. Add a few more to the mix, nobody wins.

nothing counts except your first choice, maybe they're somebody obscure who gets eliminated early and it's like you voted with the most plurality, that is the romantic version of "Ranked Choice". It's choose-only-one, what matters is to get in the biggest line that's opposed to what you don't want.

enobacon@urbanists.social @enobacon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
naively using STV as if it proportionally represents what you want is the least beneficial way to use it. The correct way to think about it is that you are lining up behind a candidate and your next choice won't be counted until the one you lined up behind is seated or eliminated.

The confusion is that "conservatism" has got nothing whatsoever to do with like Engineering mindset conservative: "I'll design this beam for twice the anticipated load so nobody dies", or otherwise being careful with resources. Political conservatism in economics is just giving rich people money.

Rivian or Cybertruck is 7klb, electric pickups 9k, escalades are 5.5klb with a gas engine and 9 in EV. The 3klb passenger cars are getting rare.

enobacon@urbanists.social @enobacon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
there is also some ignoring the relatively low volume of truck/bus traffic vs the frequent 10klb SUV/EV loads at higher speeds. The reason for concrete bus pads at stops is because the underside of a combustion-engine bus cooks the asphalt while it is stopped, making it more fluid than usual.

I'm definitely not ranking Arnold, Zimmermann, or Clark, and I don't think anyone should, but in D4 it is going to be a stretch to get 2 progressive seats, so it's unlikely that votes beyond my 1st + 2nd will count. If you're likely to get 2+ prog seats, without 3 viable prog candidates, maybe 🤷

enobacon@urbanists.social @enobacon.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
A lot of people definitely don't understand how the voting method works, that you need to strategize about which candidates are viable. I don't think multiple "don't rank" is extra bad, but people should focus more on ranking 1+2+3 in the same order as your friends/allies to get counted together.
