Rare sale of David Hockney painting of beloved dog Stanley could fetch £2.5m
Exclusive: Dog Painting 17 is believed to be one of only six of works from Dog Series in private hands and first to be auctioned David Hockney adored his dachshunds Stanley and Boodgie and let them run riot – so much so that after one had an accident in the LA home of the actor Dennis Hopper, the painter is said to have quipped: “It’ll be dry in the morning, luv, and you can just pick it up.” But Hockney did not just indulge his four-legged companions, he treated them as portrait subjects for a series of paintings, one of which is to be sold by Christie’s. It's time for eels & contract law! In 1890, Charles Hobbs sued the Massasoit Whip Co. He'd delivered a load of 2k eel skins to the company, but not been paid. Hobbs won, with the court finding that the company's silent acceptance of the shipment constituted purchase of the eels. 🗃️🧪
Photoshopped picture of a jar of Miracle Whip, edited to read: "Miraceel Whip."

Below that, the un-photoshopped text reads: "The one of a kind taste of creamy mayo and tangy dressing." And let me tell you what, folks: if it were infused with the souciance of eels, then it would really be a "one of a kind" sorta taste.

The jar announces itself to be 30 fluid oz, or 887 mL, of DRESSING. Why is it shouting about dressing? Is it trying to shame you for your naked, undressed slices of bread? That sounds puritanical in ways that you might not expect in a tweet about a dude who was a purveyor of whips for the masses.

There is a sticker as part of the label that looks a bit like a gold medal with a serrated edge, and it reads "Gold Standard Recipe" which suggests that this is the sort of thing that Williams Jennings Bryan would object to. He's not going to let you spread mankind upon a sandwich of gold. Free silver (eels), baby.
