I have separated the art from the artist and am now whipping the art to stiff peaks, after which I will gently fold it into the artist before baking at 350 til golden and puffed

Learning about change ringing and it hurts my brain a little. Very cool though! Kinda like serialism crossed with a maypole dance on church bells.

Trying out the freeform app on my ipad and I think this is how I've always wanted to do brainstorming
a screenshot of my brainstorming page for my setting of Poe's The Bells. Section headings are in large writing with notes clustered around them. The text of the poem is to the left. On the right I've imported a sheet of staff paper.

I wanted to be in writing mode, but I'm still in stewing mode. Ideas are developing.... slowly. The real trick is understanding the difference between stewing mode and "I can't write anything down unless it's perfect" anxiety

I've decided it's time to work in earnest on a choral/orchestral project. I have two ideas for medium-sized pieces that I've done some work on in the past and might like to pick up again: Idea 1: the Beatitudes in Latin Idea 2: Poe's The Bells Just haven't decided which...

There’s something very moving about the apparent simplicity of Pärt’s music. But the complexity and tension increase as the underlying canon gradually pulls us into a spiral we cannot escape. youtu.be/sp2oxWdRMuk?...

Her Piano Quartet was written in 1908 when she was just 23. It’s written in a late romantic style with flowing tunes and a rich, warm texture. If you haven’t yet discovered her music, this is a beautiful place to start. youtu.be/dZy81a57JYQ?...

A5: If you notice me having trouble with a noisy environment, often the best way to help is just let me deal with it using the methods I've developed over time, and to keep your own noise to a minimum. Making a fuss about it usually just makes things worse for me. #AutChat

A4: Various methods of blocking the noise, earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones, white noise to a certain extent, but then sometimes that bothers me too 🤣😭 In choir I sit a row behind everyone else, which helps too. #AutChat

A2: I almost don't have a social life anymore. Being around people is so difficult and exhausting, it's easier not to bother. It's much worse now. I've always been sensitive, but it's been in the last 10 years or so that it's gotten really bad. Also whoops I've been forgetting to tag #AutChat

A1: I have a lot of trouble in choir rehearsal, where I alternately need to have full use of my hearing (when we're singing, when the director is talking) and need to block out noise (when anyone else is talking) I've got special adjustable-volume earplugs, but it's still difficult

I tell people all the time that I got lucky with my career and it annoys a lot of them. "No, but you're good," they will say, and I will say, yes, I am good, and also here are all these people who write as well as I do but did not get the same break, so being good isn't the issue, being lucky is.

I did a research project on legendary child prodigies and found that the secret sauce was having parents who provided them with the best musical education possible and connections to a professional network that gave them opportunities That’s it that’s the secret, it’s just access

1) Composers almost never get the opportunity to write large orchestral works 2) If you're unfathomably lucky enough to get such an opportunity, it will almost certainly be performed once and only once 3) There is no mechanism in the orchestral community for building enduring repertoire

Oh no I've been looking through my draft while listening to a recording and now I'm trying to figure out how to fit like 1000 more things into the piano reduction bc Debussy has like 5 different things going on at any given moment and his orchestration is so transparent you can hear all of it
