Oh is this the recovering know-it-all support group? Of course it is a super important thing to learn, but it's soooo interesting how the social consequences for know-it-all-ism are so much more severe for women, so we get to seethe in silence at the know-it-all men who don't know it all 🫠

isn't it wonderful that the instruments that are a good size for children to play are also high pitched?

RESPIGHI REVEALED AS 2026 CHALLENGE COMPOSER! Hi everyone! As I'm organising the guidelines and putting the finishing touches on MY version of the 2026 Orchestration Challenge entry, I thought I'd tease the composer to whom we'll be paying homage: Ottorino Respighi!

I have separated the art from the artist and am now whipping the art to stiff peaks, after which I will gently fold it into the artist before baking at 350 til golden and puffed

Learning about change ringing and it hurts my brain a little. Very cool though! Kinda like serialism crossed with a maypole dance on church bells.

I haven't actually written on the staff paper I imported yet, I just wanted to confirm that importing staff paper was a thing I could do. Nice to know I can just scribble a few notes (🎶) on the fly if I want to.

Trying out the freeform app on my ipad and I think this is how I've always wanted to do brainstorming

a screenshot of my brainstorming page for my setting of Poe's The Bells. Section headings are in large writing with notes clustered around them. The text of the poem is to the left. On the right I've imported a sheet of staff paper.

20 yo me wouldn't be too impressed. 30 yo me would understand the slump I pulled myself out of and would be... relieved. Impressed isn't really the right word.

I wanted to be in writing mode, but I'm still in stewing mode. Ideas are developing.... slowly. The real trick is understanding the difference between stewing mode and "I can't write anything down unless it's perfect" anxiety

I've decided it's time to work in earnest on a choral/orchestral project. I have two ideas for medium-sized pieces that I've done some work on in the past and might like to pick up again: Idea 1: the Beatitudes in Latin Idea 2: Poe's The Bells Just haven't decided which...

There’s something very moving about the apparent simplicity of Pärt’s music. But the complexity and tension increase as the underlying canon gradually pulls us into a spiral we cannot escape. youtu.be/sp2oxWdRMuk?...

Oh wow I'm not actually used to other people being interested in doing this! (it's mostly been just for myself) and now I'm realizing there isn't a way to post audio on bluesky, which is weird. In the past I've posted my prompt responses on tumblr, here's the tag emilyhopebunny.com/tagged/notev...

Her Piano Quartet was written in 1908 when she was just 23. It’s written in a late romantic style with flowing tunes and a rich, warm texture. If you haven’t yet discovered her music, this is a beautiful place to start. youtu.be/dZy81a57JYQ?...
