Sometimes I write out the rhythms before I really know what all the notes are gonna be
some rhythms I've written out for my setting of Poe's The Bells, with text from the fourth stanza of the poem

Trying out the freeform app on my ipad and I think this is how I've always wanted to do brainstorming
a screenshot of my brainstorming page for my setting of Poe's The Bells. Section headings are in large writing with notes clustered around them. The text of the poem is to the left. On the right I've imported a sheet of staff paper.

I need people to witness this slur
A screenshot from Ravel's 2 piano reduction of Debussy's Nocturnes, movement 3, "Sirènes" mm. 48-49, featuring a slur that starts on the lower staff, shimmies between two pitches a step apart, crosses to the upper staff, snaking around a crescendo, and AGAIN shimmies between two pitches a step apart, before ending above the upper staff

at what point does a key signature become counterproductive?
an excerpt from "Sirènes", the third movement of Debussy's Nocturnes, in which a key signature of six flats is rendered completely useless, since every note is either sharp or natural

See this is why when you write for chorus the dynamics go ABOVE the staff
an excerpt from Daphnis et Chloé by Maurice Ravel, starting at the second measure of rehearsal 1. The chorus is given the lyric "A" at a dynamic of piano, but since the dynamic marking is placed below the staff just before the lyric, it looks like it says "pA"

I suppose this is what I get for buying the cheapest edition I could find. Stay classy, Dover
Labeled staves at the beginning of the prestissimo section near the end of the finale of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. The two horn staves are joined by a hand-drawn bracket. This is how it's printed in the score. I did not draw this bracket.

For the past few years I've been setting a challenge for myself that I call "Notevember". It's like Inktober but for music and in November. I made a logo:
The word "Notevember" in red on a musical staff with a treble clef. The letter o is replaced by a whole note.

Two horns sharing a staff in the most generous possible sense of the word "share" (from the finale of Beethoven's 9th) (I'd give measure numbers but they're not written in here and I'm not counting all of that)
an excerpt from the finale of Beethoven's 9th symphony showing the first and second horns in D. The first horn is playing around the top of the (treble clef) staff, while the second is playing a repeated low C several ledger lines below the staff.

Ok well I STILL couldn't open it all the way, but I did open it enough that this lil guy fell out, and since I don't hear anything knocking around in there anymore, I believe this is the culprit! Now let's see if I can put this all back together.....

I think I might be able to open the ear cup and secure that loose part, but it looks like I need a very small screwdriver with a triangular tip??? This will require more research.....

Ok I remembered that she actually does say something similar, and looking it up, it turns out it's the first thing she says in the whole book!
Text from Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery: "I suppose you are Mr. Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables?" she said in a peculiarly clear, sweet voice. "I'm very glad to see you. I was beginning to be afraid you weren't coming for me and I was imagining all the things that might have happened to prevent you. I had made up my mind that if you didn't come for me tonight I'd go down the track to that big wild cherry-tree at the bend, and climb up into it to stay all night. I wouldn't be a bit afraid, and it would be lovely to sleep in a wild cherry-tree all white with bloom in the moonshine, don't you think? You could imagine you were dwelling in marble halls, couldn't you? And I was quite sure you would come for me in the morning, if you didn't tonight."

I was looking for where to find the tremolo marking in Dorico, and I gotta say, this is not a place I would've thought to look!
Text from Dorico's user manual: "Tremolos are included in the Repeat Structures panel because they indicate that notes are repeated, either individually as single-note tremolos or in sequences as multi-note tremolos."
