My former colleagues, Mark Cane and Stephen Zebiak, were the first to successfully predict El Niño more than a year in advance in the late 1980s. Now we’re really good at it, and know the consequences. It’d be irresponsible for governments not to take action. Read this from my buddy Jeff Shaman.

Thousands of immigrants did the hard, dirty work of clearing rubble and toxic dust and debris from Ground Zero. Many were undocumented laborers sent to work every day with no special PPE, and got cancer as a result. Now some of those same people are living in fear of ICE. www.npr.org/2026/09/11/n...

Survivors said it was more like a "bomb" than a flood. As with most climate impacts, the burdens of the Himalayas' meltdown are falling hardest on the poorest - those who did the least to contribute to this crisis. The fuse on this glacial collapse bomb was lit far away, in this part of the world.
