This was wild: I asked Fable to make a website of the famous Catalog of Ships from the Iliad. It did a beautiful job creating this interactive map: catalogue-of-ships.netlify.app ...but it also identified that Butler's version of the Iliad actually made two mistakes in the Greek translation!

How did Gen Z become the most religious generation alive?
Data shows Gen Z believe in a higher power more than any other generation - and Christian influencers have told Sky News what they think the change is down to.

Nicolas Mansard: in locomotion / legged motion, when we worked on MPC (model predictive control) we were a team of 10 working on the robot and it barely worked. Now with RL (Reinforcement Learning) a single student can get a policy in 3 months, including training of the student.

My story “Death and the Gorgon” was voted best novella of 2024 by the readers of Asimov’s SF. You can read it online at the link below. I also have a new novella in the Nov 2025 issue of Asimov’s, “Spare Parts for the Mind”, and they have an excerpt from that on their web site.

To the King’s Theatre, where we saw “Midsummer’s Night’s Dream,” which I had never seen before, nor shall ever again, for it is the most insipid ridiculous play that ever I saw in my life. I saw, I confess, some good dancing and some handsome women, which was all my pleasure.

On the subject of love / I have only a single observation— / if you love a grapefruit, you cut it open // and eat its flesh. Ben Mirov
For the Faint of Heart

When you return from the asylum
be sure to gaze at the trees
covered in snow. When the train

enters the tunnel ask the waiter
for tea with milk. When in darkness
take seriously the lesson

of fluttering hands. If it is offered
take the class they call Ornithography
for it will teach you something

about love. On the subject of love
I have only a single observation—
if you love a grapefruit, you cut it open

and eat its flesh. Take my advice.
Take it home to your husband or wife.
Slip into bed. Turn off the lights.

Here's a poem by one of the old Chinese scholar bureaucrats that I think captures a certain Vibe very well
Dreams - Su Shi (trans. Arthur Waley)

Families, when a child is born
Want it to be intelligent.
I, through intelligence,
Having wrecked my whole life,
Only hope the baby will prove
Ignorant and stupid.
Then he will crown a tranquil life
By becoming a Cabinet Minister.

It is has not ceased to be weird that I can put Rilke’s First Elegy into Suno and get out a coherent 8 minute performance with music (can only do 3 here) You might not like the interpretation, but it is genuinely amazing that this audio, with apparent emotion, is all 100% AI from the verses alone.

I've been wanting to build something like this for a while – a machine translator that leaves the original text in place but annotates "less common" words with a translation. Had never gotten it to work decently, but Gemini 2.5 Pro does it pretty well after some prompt engineering.
Screenshot of Greek text, showing an English translation above less common words.

If you’re struggling to write a poem for a loved one for Valentine’s Day, take heart: even the great poets had to start somewhere.
Selected Early Writings of the Poets

I

the roses are red
and all the violets are blue
oh look, a haiku

- Basho

II

Roses are red,
unlike those daffs,
I wander lonely
as a giraffe cloud.

- William Wordsworth

III

Look – the roses are red!
They make my heart sing!
They fill me with hope –
Like a feathery thing!

- Emily Dickinson

IV

ROSES ARE … NO!
WHAT HAVE I DONE?
I MUST HAVE LEFT
MY CAPS LOCK ON

- ee cummings

V

Roses are dead,
see how they droop.
All of us die:
life’s only truth.

- Philip Larkin

VI

The roses had gone
(unlike my bunion)
so got this instead –
here, have an onion.

- Carol Ann Duffy
