A Dublin #painting "Ormond Quay" came from a time when I would spend hours walking the streets of the city centre and then paint them in my sleep. And they were all like this. In reality this was the only one that I actually painted; the rest are still sitting in my head. #SpéirGhorm #ArtYear
Landscape format in acrylics painted very loosely in bold colours on mat board. Frontal view of a row of 5 buildings of different heights all joined together. The one on the left edge has five storeys, the rest have four. They are greys, oranges, and greens, with dark blue roofs looking like hats and punctuate by chimneys of pale pink. In front of the buildings is the granite river wall across the road rendered in orange, with the white/grey railings of the boardwalk attached and its support bars in the maroon shadows of the river wall underneath above the grey-green river. One building has a red door with a white fantail, the rest of the buildings all have shopfronts. Windows and doors are mostly light and sketchy with some parts having dark outlines. Second storey above red door with fantail has balconies. Two buildings have contrasting corner bricks, red on pale orange on the left-most building, and white on pale green on the second from right building. Sky is a canary yellow. I took this photo of the painting before I added my signature.

A County Waterford #painting "Bunmahon" came out of a day I was cycling along the Copper Coast when two small boats having a conversation in the mouth of the Mahon river insisted I stop and think about life for a while. #SpéirGhorm #Art #TidesOutTuesday #ArtYear
Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. Two rowing boats tied in water in the near centre of the picture. Grasses are in foreground in clumps reaching out into the water. Sand and dune grass is behind the boats and on the right. A grass-topped promontory of lilac sheer rock about 100 metres past stretching out from the left edge to the sea which is just visible behind the dunes by the right edge. The open sea is also visible in a small gap between the dune grass and right end of the rock face. The rock face has countless dark vertical lacerations, and several patches of grass on its side. Cloudless sky is pale blue, water is cobalt, grass green-grey with orange and yellow details, and sand is pink and lilac in sun, blue and purple in shade. Boat on left is white with red details, boat just behind on right is green with a wide red band along the top. Blue ropes stretch from boats to grass on either side. Signed bottom right in red, Liam Daly

What about the cost of NOT investing in public transports? Air quality, missed climate targets, traffic congestion - there’s more to public transport that ticket sales. It doesn’t make sense to treat it as an enterprise that needs to break even.
