a lot about this was fine. cinematography is pretty nice. performances are sturdy enough. but the script is half baked at best and drags everything down. anyway here's three things that pissed me off:

1) you gotta figure out something interesting for your monster to Do and something interesting for it to Be. "either twists heads off instantly or shoves people somewhat hard for a while" and "possibly likes car rides" are not interesting things to do and "some evil dude who's been around 'forever' and just looks like some old guy" are not interesting things to be.

2) just cut the Bob Ross thing if you can't figure out what to do with it. why set up Happy Accidents and then it pays off when she says it before.... doing something on purpose? that's a second draft cut

3) can we seriously not throw together a husk of a church in the middle of nowhere and light it on actual fire? is that a lost art? fire? is prometheus free to go then? real fire always has spectacle to it. cgi fire is like a reference to the spectacle of fire. "you know fire yeah? pretty awesome right? well that's where it would be if we had hired a couple carpenters for two days and a fire marshal for one, but we decided to piss on your leg and expect you to happily accept that it's the rain you paid admission to see." you used to be the damn MOVIES
