In the first part of Carrie by Stephen King, there's a reference to the song Hey Jude. In the first chapter of the first story of The Dark Tower, there's a reference to Hey Jude. This is either because Ka is a wheel or because Stephen King has a really small reference pool of media he likes.

He'd bought the mule in Pricetown, and when he reached Tull, it was still fresh. The sun had set an hour earlier, but the gun- slinger had continued traveling, guided by the town glow in the sky, then by the uncannily clear notes of a honky-tonk piano playing "Hey Jude." The road widened as it took on tributaries. Here and there were overhead sparklights, all of them long dead.

Eyewitnesses also reported hearing a strange sound from his restraints, which sounds like mechanical failure. Whether thats a design or maintenance issue remains to be seen.

I'm not expert but it seems like the accident in Georgia might be a technical failure. It's the first rider fatality on ANY B&M coaster, ever, so its extra surprising. It was also the rare B&M that didn't have a redundant seat belt system on board, on the other hand.

I do wonder if we'll ever get an idea of the mechanics of those injuries on X2. I hadn't ridden it in two decades but you could tell it wasn't running smooth in recent years. The Goliath situation seems so much worse with all the media coverage and the damn photos going around. Trul tragix.

I'm no expert on Georgia law, so idk what they require, but I believe they weren't required when Goliath opened. I'd also guess that the ride was grandfathered in if regulations changed, since they never modified the trains to add seat belts. Consumer confidence is in the toilet for Six Flags rn.

I'm not sure it's operator error this time. Reports say the seat was fully unlocked and opened when it came into the station. Even if the operate made an error, the cars have multiple levels of restraints which should have prevented this. This one might be a mechanical failure.

It's even more shocking because no B&M roller coaster has EVER had a rider die from restraint problems. And B&M has some of the most secure restraints every made for roller coasters. Something went VERY wrong today, and my guess is it's not operator error...

B&M (the coaster designer and manufacturer) have an obsessively safety focused design and engineering culture, so this accident is horrific and baffling. Of course maintenance and upkeep is on the owner as well so I'll be interested to see what comes out in the O&M records

It's especially concerning that this happened on a B&M. They've had a spectacular safety record and there are so many redundancies with their restraints. Between this and X2 this is just a PR nightmare for Six Flags.

Coasters from this manufacturer, B&M, have (until today) a basically spotless safety record. No deaths and any injuries have been due to operator error or, like, going under the ride while it's running. The seats on this ride have multiple safety redundancies, too. God only knows what happened.

B&M does NOT cut corners. Their ride restraints have multiple redundancies, and the rides are such a big draw to guests (and such a big investment) that parks spend a lot of time and effort on inspections and maintenance.

It's important to note that this is the first serious accident that's been reported on a ride built by Bollinger & Mabillard, who've built over 100 coasters in the past 27 years. They're extremely well respected, expensive rides, and this one is just over 20 years old.
