New blog post! What am I attempting to answer without looking stuff up this time? It's oil! Specifically palm oil, and I attempt to answer why I think it is in so many everyday products Let me know what you think of my off-the-cuff response and what new questions you'd like me to answer!

Episode 2: Do I know about…
Welcome our second post of “Is I wrong?”, the project of self-exploration of how much I think I know and how little I probably do. Today’s Question: I’ve seen from satellite images and data that much of the Indonesian tropical forest has been cut down for palm oil plantations. The scale of the deforestation for a monoculture crop is incredible and one of the clearest signs of human caused change to the globe with huge effects to biodiversity.

Episode 1: Do I know about … traffic light triggers?
Introduction Welcome everyone to the first every post of “Is I wrong?”, the project of self-exploration of how much I think I know and how little I probably do. Terminology is key Today's Question: How do vehicles trigger stop lights to turn? Reminder: my own personal answer has to be off the cuff: (no research, internet searches, phone, or asking others allowed).

This work shows that the evolution of plasticity is an important process to consider with rescue from strong anthropogenic stressors

Eric G. Prileson @egprileson.bsky.social · 04/05/2026
We found that both resistance evolution and gene flow changed the strength and direction of plasticity. For some traits in resistant populations, the shifts in reaction norms were maladaptive, indicative of a trade-off. High diversity gene flow however, minimized maladaptive plasticity
