Lizards & hurricanes. In a new study, "researchers finger a gene that may have helped lucky anoles survive hurricane-force winds by shrinking some of their toes, giving them a stronger grip". 🧪 #Science #Biology #Animals #Evolution 1- www.science.org/content/arti... 2- www.cell.com/current-biol...

When hurricanes blow through Turks and Caicos, a silver key anole’s ability to hold onto its perch in strong winds can be a matter of life or death. A new study identifies a gene that might help these lizards get a better grip.

Thrilled to have my first thesis chapter published in @currentbiology.bsky.social! We combine genomics, gene editing, and performance experiments to reveal the genetic basis and functional consequences of hurricane-induced trait shifts in island lizards! Check it out: www.cell.com/current-biol...

Genomic targets of hurricane-induced selection on clinging performance in an island lizard

Thrilled to see *National Geographic* highlight the wall lizards living in Cincinnati and our research on these little guys! www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/arti... #WalliesWorld

10 lizards were smuggled into Cincinnati in a sock. Now there are tens of thousands.
Native to Europe, common wall lizards are growing bigger, faster, and more resilient in Ohio. Scientists say the city itself may be driving their evolution.

Now we’re learning about how lizards adapt to urban environments w/ @princetonvaughn.bsky.social! Urban anoles- across multiple cities- have longer limbs! They can also handle higher temps because cities are hotter. Princeton asks- are city lizards faster sprinters with those gams??

Hi everyone! Decided that since I’m over here now, I should introduce myself! I am a PhD student in Shane Campbell-Staton’s lab studying how anole lizards are adapting to anthropogenic change. I use genomics, functional morphology, and kinematics to study rapid parallel evolution!
