Prime Day is a great time to boycott Amazon and send a clear message that you don’t support the Bezos behemoth That said, please be kind to disabled people who can’t boycott Many rely on Amazon for necessary supplies and are unable to get them any other way Help build networks of community care

Studies find that universities see an increase in applications and an increase in the number of donations after a public scandal about mishandling sexual violence. These tactics are a part of why. The school declares themselves “changed” and a “leader” in PR campaigns.

Disabled people tried to warn you. We were one of the first groups targeted by the Nazis. Fascists will always come for the “useless eaters”. They want to institutionalize us. Hide us away from the rest of society. Remove our supports so we either die or disappear. It’s eugenics.

We've seen a distinct drop in interest in these conditions as people have memory-holed COVID; they'd like to forget infection-associated chronic conditions, but they're impacting everyone, including kids. Examples of researchers talking about how many people volunteering for studies as healthy controls turn out to have Long Covid:
Tweet from Putrino Lab @PutrinoLab

Of all the "COVID-recovered" people who are kindly emailing us to participate in our study (meaning they had COVID >12 weeks ago and feel recovered), only about 1 in 5 are actually passing our screening questionnaire. The rest actually have persistent symptoms. #LongCOVID

1:18 PM • 2/23/22 From EarthScreenshot from CNN Health

Putrino said they had the most difficult time, in some respects, recruiting people to their control groups. "We had all of these people saying, 'I had Covid, and I'm fully recovered. Can I be in your study?' "

Upon further questioning, however, Putrino says they'd tell him things that would suggest they weren't really back to normal. "They'd say, I'm fully recovered. I just don't go to the gym anymore.' " Why don't you go to the gym anymore? 'Well, when I exercise, I feel really terrible," he said. Disabling fatigue after exercise is a common symptom of long Covid called post-exertional malaise.

He says that ultimately, about 50% of participants who were screened to be part of the control group couldn't be included because of continuing symptoms.Tweet from Alba Azola, MD
@AzolaAlba

For those doing LC research... around you having trouble finding controls? We are experiencing that most of our "HC" volunteers, when further assessed, end up having post COVID symptoms

Another thing about the globe article is how clearly it demonstrates not only the sheer social acceptability & indeed *social capital* of ableism, but also how that capital then functions to qualify misogyny & queerphobia that would otherwise be too stigmatizing to express "on the left"

If you look you will see that the CDC has changed its COVID wastewater benchmarks so that it seems like things aren’t as bad as they really are. And if you look you will see that it isn’t just the CDC that wants to pretend like things aren’t as bad as they really are.

PMC COVlD Update, Sep 21, 2026 (US) 🔥13th COVlD wave 🔥40 states/territories with outbreaks (see Alt text) 🔥3.8 million estimated weekly infections 🔥Outbreaks in NYC 🔥Extremely high levels on the Big Island of HI Mask up and get boosted. 🧵THREAD (1/4)
The US has at least 34 states and territories with COVlD outbreaks. These include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawai'i, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Levels on the Big Island of Hawai’i are particularly high. Note also, the NYC area is seeing outbreaks.

There are likely outbreaks in additional states. The summary statistic of 40 only includes counties with observed data, rather than estimated data. For example, Idaho, Louisiana, Maryland, and Tennessee likely have outbreaks, but monitoring is poor.

COVID helped fuel the rise of the far right globally. The uncertainty, grief, anger, and fear made for fertile ground for conspiracist thinking and right-wing indoctrination. Is it one of many drivers? Yes. But it’s an important factor nonetheless—and one that is too often overlooked and unexamined

A summer COVID-19 wave is still rising in the U.S., according to data through late July. Increases in disease spread are most pronounced in the South and West, but all regions have growing outbreaks. thesicktimes.org/2026/08/11/n...
Graphic from The Sick Times sharing the latest COVID-19 trends for August 11, 2026. The graphic presents trends for three metrics: WastewaterSCAN category for SARS-CoV-2, which is "high" (represented with orange) and significantly increasing (represented with a directly up arrow); CDC wastewater viral activity level for SARS-Cov-2, which is "very low*" (lighter yellow) and significantly increasing; and CDC COVID-19 test positivity, which is moderate (darker yellow) and significantly increasing. Text below these metrics reads: "*CDC wastewater viral activity levels are calculated based on measurements in the last two years only. They do not account for the lower spread that could be possible with more widespread precautions."

I would like to see more companies admit this - being a public company no longer means running a successful, thriving business. It strictly means delivering growth to investors, every single quarter, who do not care at all about the product the company sells or the people who produce it.

Fauci used his Power as a public health leader to frame sacrificing the vulnerable for the economy as acceptable, inevitable. He manufactured consent. Every person uncritically praising him is not only memoryholing atrocity but romanticizing the foreclosure of their own capacity for critical thought

people could respond to this framing around reporting deaths—"had significant underlying health conditions"—with more confidence if we weren't also living through a pandemic in which we have been told only people who have "underlying health issues" are "vulnerable" or "at risk"

They're making sure to reframe the 1st 2 cyclosporiasis deaths as exceptional bc of "underlying" health conditions. Nvm capitalism enforces bodily harm & an ever-increasing percentage of the population is becoming disabled by it. These ppl always deserved to die & have gotten their due.

Important history lesson: Fascism rose partly as a result of the 1918 pandemic.
The 1918 Influenza Pandemic and the Rise of Italian Fascism: A Cross-City Quantitative and Historical Text
Qualitative Analysis
Gregori Galofré-Vilà, PhD, Martin Mckee, MD, DSc, María Gómez-León, PhD, and David Stuckler, PhD
Evidence linking past experiences of worsening health with support for radical political views has generated concerns about the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The influenza pandemic that began in 1918 had a devastating health impact: 4.1 million Italians contracted influenza and about 500 000 died. We tested the hypothesis that deaths from the 1918 influenza pandemic contributed to the rise of Fascism in Italy. To provide a "thicker" interpretation of these patterns, we applied historical text mining to the newspaper Il Popolo d'Italia (Mussolini's newspaper). Our observations were consistent with evidence from other contexts that worsening mortality rates can fuel radical politics. Unequal impacts of pandemics may contribute to political polarization.
