Thank you BJ 💚 And hey listen, I turn 45 today. If you’re tempted to celebrate in any way, thank you, and I’d LOVE if we can get this deeply worthy gofundme for BJ’s post-radiation dental reconstruction up to $45k today. Now THAT would be a perfect birthday. www.gofundme.com/f/bj-needs-a...

Here is a thread about a true police-shooting incident that I'm going to use to pose a fun little thought problem for anyone anywhere who think there ia a single justifiable reason to ever allow a law enforcement officer to use force on a citizen and remain anonymous. From my back pages:

I cannot stress enough how, if you like fantasy, epics, action, good movies in general, Indian cinema, and/or RRR, you REALLY need to catch BAAHUBALI: THE EPIC on the big screen this week. Don't worry a bit about the run time, we hard-coded a ten minute intermission into the DCP and the film ZIPS.

Above the headline a photo of the vampires from Sinners, asking to be let in. The photo has been modified with a downward-facing word balloon to create the effect that the vampires are speaking the headline.

The one venue I'll sort of miss at Sundance is the Holiday, a creaky four-plex with generally good vibes in the tent and decent picture and sound, only dinged because each theater had about 24 seats.

Review: A provocative stranger returns home in 'Misericordia,' a murder mystery free of convention
Alain Guiraudie, the French writer-director, shapes his penchant for queer subject matter into something that owes much to the cool mysteries of Claude Chabrol.

In high school at a Suncoast, I found a laserdisc of Se7en that had commentaries, 5.1 sound, storyboards, "the killer's diaries", and my head exploded- I had no clue special features like that existed. Started saving up for a laserdisc player, but by the time I had the $ DVDs were rolling out.

Seven Veils: Thrilling in its unraveling of impropriety across art in all its forms - stage, screen, even clay - all inextricable from pain. Bemused and slightly irritable, Egoyan seeks to understand a world profiting from harm. Amanda Seyfried is tremendous. Wildly great stuff.

I recently watched the same movie twice in one week; once at home and once in a packed theater. The film was exactly the same, but the different venues elicited very different responses. That led to this piece. I suppose the headline speaks for itself.

When car shopping I asked the Tesla folks "if there's a wreck and no power, how does my kid open the door to get out?" The answer was "oh easy they fold down some carpet under the seat to reveal a cable that has to be pulled a certain direction," which is goddamn insane, so I did not buy a Tesla.
An image from the Tesla Model S owners manual noting two small buttons hidden under the carpet beneath the rear seats that rival a cable that has to be pulled a certain way to open the rear doors when there is no power, with the text "Opening a Rear Door with No Power: To open a rear door in the unlikely situation when Model S has no power, fold back the edge of the carpet below the rear seats to expose the mechanical release cable. Pull the mechanical release cable towards the center of the vehicle."
