Parents: don't do this. Don't grieve for the person you wish your kid had become, because that's weird and shitty and ignores the fact that your kid is a fully-formed person in their own right. It's also important to see how this tendrils through everything else. Issues of bodily autonomy (including LGBTQIA+ and abortion) get cast as "complicated" or outright rejected in no small part because accepting people's right to bodily autonomy means having to reject those abusers.

What we are seeing now, where support for LGBTQIA+ is inextricably tied to corporations ditching support. Their support is driven by how the public supports Pride, but it goes both ways. As corps stop supporting, the segments of society that were also only supporting performatively do the same.

I remember going to visit my brother at college in Springfield, MO his freshman year, and he took me to the Moxie (the local indy theater), which happened to be playing Persepolis. I loved how it showed that despite differences in countries, people are really just people.
