I’ve heard UK academics say that complex degree programmes involving cooperation between departments are targeted for cuts because they are more costly to run. Disastrous if true and goes against intellectual trends of interdisciplinary thought. Very shortsighted.

A thread on the dispute at Exeter Uni. #ucu #defendexeteruni @ucu.org.uk On 15 June HR called Exeter UCU into a confidential meeting and informed us they would be putting over 500 colleagues at risk of redundancy and expected to loose around 200 staff. The number of c.150 you’ll have seen is FTE.

Nottingham staff will strike on 30 September and 1 October as University Council meets to decide the future of jobs and courses. Further strike action will run from 5 October to 11 December. Management can still stop this: rule out compulsory redundancies and protect teaching and research.
