I’ve heard UK academics say that complex degree programmes involving cooperation between departments are targeted for cuts because they are more costly to run. Disastrous if true and goes against intellectual trends of interdisciplinary thought. Very shortsighted.

Without googling — which critic of capitalism said this, and when did they say it?
“This concentration of power and might, the characteristic mark of contemporary economic life, is the fruit that the unlimited freedom of struggle among competitors has of its own nature produced, and which lets only the strongest survive; and this is often the same as saying, those who fight the most violently, those who give least heed to their conscience.”
