I once won a guess the weight of the Christmas cake competition. I did it by mentally comparing the weight of the cake to that of a known cat on the other side of the planet. (True story.)

It's not just that we had two wasted years under Keir Starmer - years in which, with a vast majority and quite a lot of goodwill - he could have turned this country around. On crucial issues, we had two years of spiralling backwards, towards a very dark place. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Devastating for Canadian programs too, which also require TOEFL or IELTS. Grad faculty: Talk to admissions, at the University level (often where the requirement is enforced), before deadlines. It would be deeply wrong to just deny Iranians admission when they can't access the test #philsky #philsci

The Mono Awards 2026.

Places category winner Cushla Monk says a little research into weather and sunrise conditions led to an early-morning trip to the harbour. “What an overwhelmingly beautiful morning it turned out to be,” she recalls. “The constant movement of the fog rolling in across the harbour, the light as the sun rose and the changing angles of the sun’s rays through the steel girders of the Harbour Bridge were all so mesmerising.”

We can walk and chew gum at the same time, folks. In other words, we can – and obviously should – be concerned about more than one kind of risk (and about their connection). Here’s my response to an earlier round of this ridiculous polarization. royalsocietypublishing.org/rsos/article...
