A figure stands in a barren landscape; reaches for the lever on a large, eccentric contraption covered in wires, pipes, dials and buttons; looks over towards two figures inside a bunker and says:

"'Trust me, it's safe' would sound a lot more reassuring if you weren't saying it from inside a concrete bunker."

Hello! I’m reading The Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance by Chiara Bullen. A historian travels to the inn to document the adventurers who set forth from there to climb the mountain & maybe kill the dragon. But after one night at the inn, the adventurers turn back. Always. No one has ever succeeded.
Photograph of my hand holding a copy of the very beautiful The Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance, by Chiara Bullen. The black cover is decorated with a picture of a traditional white house. Vines climb up the margins, entwined with books and swords. At the top is a mountain peak with a dragon flying around it.

Incredibly, I am STILL reading "Elric of Melniboné: The Elric Saga, Vol. 1" by Michael Moorcock - things have taken a darker turn, with our hero making several major blunders in a row, sending him even further down his moody path of guilt and shame-ridden questing and generally chaotic destruction
