New Stephen King / Peter Straub - was considering rereading 1st 2 but bus broke down on way home after picking it up so got started. New rather lovely looking spooky novella from @casskhaw.bsky.social and I drank the Malazan kool-aid a long time ago so will always pick up new books in that series
Stephen King and Peter Straub - Other Worlds than These, Steven Erikson - Legacies of Betrayal (book 3 of 4 in sequel quadrilogy to main 10 book series of Malazan) and Cassandra Khaw - Find Me Where it Ends

Still on Stormbringer: The Elric Saga Vol. 2 by Michael Moorcock. Soul-eating swords, sorcery, parallel universes, timeslips, dragons, generally enjoyable Chaos. Sometimes Law. Very occasionally a bit of Balance. Our conflicted hero continues his quest through the multiverse for some kind of peace.

Back to Terry Pratchett's Discoworld - I revisit it every few years and always find it a joyful experience. 'The Light Fantastic' is this week's book. The Luggage is my hero.
Book cover of 'The Light Fantastic' by Terry Pratchett. Cartoon picture of a wizard in red robes, an elderly one-eyed warrior in a loincloth, a young woman in fantasy bikini-style 'armour' and several other figures flying through the air on a big wooden chest with lots of ittle legs.

Good morning! I am alternating between Malory’s Arthur & Ivanhoe. If I got any more cod Middle Ages, I’d sprout a wimple!
My hand holding an old olive green hardback copy of Ivanhoe by Walter Scott in front of a patterned pinkish carpet. The spine of the book is stamped with gold colour, it says: Ivanhoe Waverley Novels Border Editions 250 illustrations Edited by Andrew Lang, with some tasselly patterns.

The question hurls itself into the silence like a star, burning bright across the darkness, a reverberating breaking, an ache old & new, the quiet doubt of sky-strewn understanding, the half-life of care turned Gordian knot, turned myth, turned wild thing— what was real & what was untrue? #TinyPoem

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon
Panel 1: a large robot (composed of AI servers, network switches, storage arrays, and power distribution units) and a human are talking.

Professor "You don't want to destroy humanity do you, lLLM-A-9300x?"

Robot "Haha. What a silly question, Professor. I have no desires or feelings of my own whatsoever."

Professor (relieved)"Oh good."

Panel 2: they walk on. The robot continues "I am merely a tool of the company that created me. And that company, being composed of humans, will naturally have humanity's best interests at heart."

Panel 3: The professor is conspicuously quiet.
"Right?" says the Robot.
…
More silence

"Professor?"

Cracking set at Bath Komedia last night, Robyn - thank you so much! What a great band, rich setlist, and clear sound. So many of my faves, but particularly rejoiced in the double whammy of So You Think You're In Love and Oceanside, and later Driving Aloud. Whoop! May the rest of the tour be as ace.

Acnestis [ak-NEES-tis] (n.) - The part of the back that cannot easily be reached to scratch. Used in a sentence: “Ever since our illicit dalliance in the back garden, my acnestis has been afflicted with a most infernal rash of Poison Oak, and Miss Drollup has ceased returning my correspondence.”
A "Grandiloquent Word of the Day" meme for “Acnestis,” defined as the part of the back between the shoulder blades that cannot easily be reached to scratch. The example sentence jokes about an illicit garden dalliance, a poison oak rash, and Miss Drollup ceasing correspondence. At right, an antique illustration shows two draped figures with dotted reference lines marking areas of the back.
