"Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator," I wisely intone, as the corrupt demented paedophile US President violating Constitutional Law while operating a gestapo and concentration camps illegally arrests a foreign leader on charges which read like they were written on a paper placemat in crayon.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts. Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

I want to push back on some discourse I've been seeing suggesting that universities cannot use endowment funds to make up gaps in research funding. For example, at Columbia, about one-third of our $15b endowment was unrestricted as of June 2024. Be careful not to preemptively justify austerity

The White House’s “ASMR” video showcasing the shackling and deportation of migrants is a grotesque display of dehumanization. This administration’s perverse attempt to frame human suffering as soothing reflects a deeply disturbing and inhumane mindset. Reminder: The only felon is the President.

The term “culture war” suggests two sides with cultural differences. But it actually has nothing to do with culture. Instead, it is a euphemism used by the media to describe situations where one side of a debate wants to deny rights to the other side of the debate based solely on their identities.

The idea that a ban on gender-affirming care could constitute anything *other* than discrimination on the basis of sex is an indictment of the legal system. This is exactly what such bans are designed to do.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.
