Two decades ago, a close friend - stern, German - saw one of our profs in sandals and shorts and told me they could no longer respect him. Every year, when it gets warm, I think of this. This year, I actually asked the undergraduates I work with. Verdict: shorts okay, sandals absolutely not.

This is bad news for everyone in the South, and really bad news for low-income trans folks. The surgeons getting pushed out of university hospitals will move to private practice and while SOME people will still get trans surgeries covered by insurance, those on Medicaid won’t.

Show hearings and trials are a key marker of a concentration-camp regime. Even in countries with existing detention crises, the conscious step to degrade due process for targeted groups further diminishes the larger legal system while shifting power to emerging quasi-legal and extralegal approaches.
