Would love to see the people who post that obnoxious Contrapoints meme explain the surely critical distinction between "only critiquing power" and "demanding power be used the way they want." Of course the real use of the meme is to signal a kind of smug political savvy that is totally unearned.

In the labor strife of the last few months, we see the clear impact of the two austerity budgets generated by the Wash. State Legislature in 2025-2026. Ferry worker sickouts; state employee walkouts; picketing by teachers and college staff: Each are consequences of deep cuts to state services.

@sound-transit.bsky.social, could someone explain why you put a big photo of District 5 City Council Candidate Julie Kang at the newly opened Pinehurst Station? This is an outrageous use of public resources. This photo needs to be taken down, or at least covered up, until after the election.

Get ready. Policing is about to get really really bad in Seattle. Patrol will be made up of about 50-100 60-year-old cops phoning it in on their way the door and barely trained 20-something rookies with itchy triggerfingers. All making twice as much as a normal city employee.

Maritza Rivera referred to an increase in the number of people working in the police department's real time crime center (which monitors police surveillance cameras) as an effort to "eliminate the real time crime center." In reality, as SPD's budget director explained, it's an expansion to 24 hours.

Wow, who could have predicted that appeasing reactionaries would fail? If only there was some history of this sort of thing going back to Edmund Burke. If only the last two decades made it apparent that conservatives have no principles beyond a belief that they should sit atop the social hierarchy.

If we preemptively compromise with Dracula, he will neither suck our blood nor turn us into vacant somnambulists. We must learn to share our city with the Dark Lord, who actually has a point about property crime, you know.

A frustrating aspect of the Wilson admin is that they seem to believe that they can win over conservatives by preemptively compromising/leading the march into austerity. It will never be enough. Progressives should have learned this lesson a decade ago. If they gave Kettle 150, he'd rage about 250.

not to take anything away from Kelabe, who is a phenomenal candidate & has run a great campaign, but this result does show the influence of The Stranger when you look at the 43rd and 46th LDs. Landlord, Michael E Heijer accidentally CCed the entire Seattle city council, asking fellow landlords to testify against rental junk fee banning. Said renters who testified in favor of banning junk fees were the “unemployed left trying to stick it to the man.” Still think this isn’t a class war?
Thanks Wes;
I wrote a similar one and sent it, but didn't cc anyone as I am not sure how they treat that.
I met with Lake Union Partners yesterday and they had a group of developers speaking in front of the Seattle City Council complaining about this item. They were a handful of people who spoke against it, and then the unemployed left of course had a whole bunch of people trying to "stick it to the man" as they want other people pay for their living accommodations.
Very sad.
So, Jack, Nevin et al please keep writing more emails to them so they know that we don't like this at all and keep some pressure on them
Thanks and have a great weekend all.
