Yeah the dude worships death and I mean that extremely literally. He tells you as much, yeah it’s cloaked in Christian iconography but the main character is death. That’s where he identifies the power of his actions and it’s quite literally Antichrist behavior but what are ya gonna do.

Of course, Trump is the big cancer that needs to be excised, but we should practice with Hegseth. We'll learn in the process what the underlying realities of the Republican caucuses are in this regard, and know what approach will be most effective in impeaching Trump.

This is perhaps the most important reason to begin the impeachment of Pete Hegseth right away. He will only do worse things going forward, and he is someone who could be removed by impeachment proceedings. And even if not, it's the best way to pressure and contstrain this idiot.

Yeah. People who live in the west Bronx are very aware of this anomaly with Marble Hill to the point that it's confusing when someone refers to it as the Bronx. It's not huge thing other than jurisdiction.

It was in Marble Hill, which means likely in New York County rather than Bronx County

In addition, the hearings leading up to it and the Senate trial would be truly devastating. It's hard to believe that Trump would let him stay through that, but with Trump you never know.

Mikie Johnson had to adjourn the House until after the midterms because a REPUBLICAN had put forward a privileged motion to impeach Hegseth--there was a good chance it would pass. By January it's likely he'd be both impeached and removed. It's a great warm-up.

fwiw if you want to make a strategic case for congressional democrats trying to impeach trump if they take majorities, i think the first step is impeaching hegseth, the bar is lower and the likelihood of success is probably much higher

Beyond matters of taste and decency and whether or not you even believe in the death penalty due to moral reasons, livestreaming the execution of Nidal Hasan is a dumb idea because you're giving him his moment of public martyrdom.

Again, I say Rejoice
A sermon for the twentieth Sunday after Pentecost, October 11, 2026 St. John's Episcopal Church, New City, New York Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Paul wrote this letter to the Church at Philippi from prison. The word that is translated here as “Rejoice,” is Chairete. There is a footnote in my Bible which says it could also mean “Farewell.” It is a word that was frequently used for a greeting – it means joy, but also connotes peace, quite similar in usage to the Hebrew word Shalom.

My youngest is 43, so it was a while ago, but the connection with your children when you read with them is such a precious thing—it’s important to both the parent and child. It’s a human sort of thing.

Amazon. Uber. Air-BnB. All represent the use of technology to streamline the customer experience and, bluntly, reduce costs by dodging regulation or taxes. They weren't the PRODUCT. No consumer wants to BUY AI. It's not a product. Billy six-fingers has no value to them until he gets a job.

Most of AI (in business terms) is driven by a false belief that TECHNOLOGY is what drove the internet and telecommunications booms of the last two decades. Technology unlocked better communication and business processes. THOSE then drove the boom. Tech was a means to an end, not the end in itself.

All of Trump’s supporters have always been that way. They choose to take literally those things they want to happen and regard everything else as just a goof. Almost always confusing his insincere pandering with his actual intent.

The irony of this being in Wired🥲 Good article, though I’m not sure I can fully trust its ultimate conclusion (not just because of the inbuilt bias but also because I worked with a grad student who researched this very question last year, and came to somewhat different conclusions)

I remember people being loudly insistent that Liberace, Elton John, and Freddie Mercury were _obviously_ straight men. David Bowie was explained as "Well, he is Australian." The hatred of disco was entirely about lascivious white people with too much money who danced too well.

I don't know how important this is, but it seems like it might be relevant to the trans rights discussion: I think that a lot of people 50 and younger do not remember when no one was gay. I am 64, and I was raised in a conservative household, and I absolutely remember this.

Yes. And the scale of investment in the AI bubble is MUCH larger than in the Dot.Com runup--the bursting of this bubble will be much bigger--even assuming there will be valuable surviving technologies and businesses on the other side.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

So, I looked up Rawls on Wikipedia, and his senior thesis was quite religious, and he considered studying for the Episcopal Priesthood, so I guess all four of them count as devout mainline proestants--at least in the ways I count devout.

I LOVE how @propublica.org dealt with official comment here, editorially and stylistically.
The Trump administration says none of this is happening.

"DHS is NOT arresting U.S. citizens by mistake." "There are no 'indiscriminate' stops." Allegations of "racial profiling are disgusting, reckless and categorically FALSE." "The pattern is NOT of law enforcement using force." "ICE does not zip tie or restrain children."

But that is precisely what is happening, and at a far larger scale than previously reported.

Three of of those, at least, were notably devout Anglicans/Episcopalians or Presbyterians aka mainline prostestants. Not sure about Rawls, but he was definitely studied in seminary ethics classes. That’s a big part of Talarico’s identity. We have definitely faded from the prominence of mid-century.
