I love the way the final exchange has just a hint of "we didn't think he'd be any good either, mate, but he's a surprising one, is Harry" under the surface

BLESSED is a better actor than many give him credit for, it's just that being SO MUCH BRIAN BLESSED means he's now mostly booked simply to play himself. Nice gig if you can get it... (His Squire Weston in Tom Jones is a good example - he's born to the role, but there's more to it than shouting)

Sometimes truly cursed ideas just spring into my head and I NEED to get them out.
A "UK(US) Military base trespassing bingo!" sheet. It has a camo background and a 3 x 3 grid. Squares are "Anorak" with a photo of The Anorak from CBBC. "Guy who just wants to talk to the designer of the F35 for a sec. He just wants to talk to him." "Skycards players" with the Skycards logo. "Red diesel enthusiasts" with a glass of red wine emoji, "Took a wrong turn at albuquerque" with bugs bunny sticking out of a hole looking at a map. "Doggers" with eggplant and water droplets emojis. "Over-enthusiastic war thunder forums users" with the war thunder logo. "Aeromorphs" with one of the anthromorphic planes from Disney planes, and "Military history dads" with the Imperial War Museum logo.

A ship in dazzle camouflage, probably the troopship HMNZT Tafua, seen from the bows. I'd not seen this one before but it's in the John Glasgow collection at Tazman Heritage.

I think it's a massacre for sure, but not necessarily a guaranteed 'win'. My hunch is there's not a single 'correct' answer unless you define the tactical situation, victory conditions and the will to fight, and there are certainly combinations in which my money would be on the triremes.

On 8th Oct 1952 the worst civilian rail disaster in UK history happened in London. 112 deaths. 340 wounded. That accident, and the actions of one woman from Florida have saved THOUSANDS of lives since. That disaster helped lead to the creation of paramedics. /1 🧵 www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU60...

Superficially 100 vessels sounds like the JE investment in torpedo boats etc, but those triremes aren't bringing a new ship-killing weapon to the table. The only real thing that'd be familiar to late 19th century naval thinking is that everything had to have a ram at the front!
050
Dreadnought Holiday @dreadships.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
That's closer to the JE intention to reduce the Royal Navy's advantage in strength by forcing them to spread it widely, and to use torpedoes etc to reduce investment in capital ships without losing the ability to make RN eyes water in French seas.

To take this seriously, the Ship of the Line is more Jeune École. By having a longer and faster radius of action it can threaten trade routes, forcing the triremes to split their forces. The new technology significantly increases the fighting value of the SoL, allowing it to defeat each in turn.

Realistically though it's going to depend on what constitutes a victory and under what conditions they meet. Wooden boats are incredibly hard to sink, so I can't see a ship of the line being able to sink or even disable a hundred of them without running out of shot.

100 galleys might well be able to crowd it to a halt, at which point boarding becomes a matter of time and acceptable casualties (plenty of vessels were cut out after being boarded from boats that were relatively smaller than this)

Which players would definitely deserve a shiny sticker in the hypothetical Panini album right now? (I've only just realised how weird it is to have football stickers sponsored by a toasted sandwich, but that's more of an observation than a question)

Wondering if I have any followers in #Iceland / #Ísland who might know where this church might be. A still from a film taken by a British military cameraman in August 1940. #filmcataloguing
A still from a piece of black and white archive film. A British soldier probably of the Lincolnshire Regiment, and with one arm in a sling inside his uniform, fraternises with a group of Icelandic civilians who may be on their way to or from a church in the background. IWM film AYY 33X

Isn't Stella still seen as "premium" in a fair few countries that are lager stalwarts? I seem to remember it's only aggressive supermarket discounting that trashed its reputation in the UK. That said, for a decent top ten I reckon Germany or Czechia are your best bets.

More likely that trains come to a halt there regularly (the oil stains suggest that too) and carcasses held in place by air resistance etc finally slide off.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.
