This government has made life dramatically harder for trans children and their families. The human costs are enormous. Cal is not the first parent I know that has made the gut wrenching decision to leave the country. Read this then start fighting for a world where trans kids can live and thrive.

We have had this conversation so many times. You do not have to platform/debate obscene views that are also false. I wrote during a wave of pressure on progressives to compromise with far-right haters:
I can comprehend, and do, that lots of people don’t believe climate change is real, but is there some great benefit in me listening, again, to those who refuse to listen to the global community of scientists and see the evidence before our eyes? A lot of why the right doesn’t “understand” climate change is that climate change tells us everything is connected, everything we do has far-reaching repercussions, and we’re responsible for the whole, a message at odds with their idealization of a version of freedom that smells a lot like disconnection and irresponsibility. But also climate denial is the result of fossil fuel companies and the politicians they bought spreading propaganda and lies for profit, and I understand that better than the people who believe it. If half of us believe the earth is flat, we do not make peace by settling on it being halfway between round and flat.

A key element in the mainstreaming of reactionary politics was to get mainstream actors to engage with reactionary ideas as if they were legitimate debates Mainstream actors fell for it as they generally "won" the argument but by engaging at all they legitimised the reactionary position 1/

Let's do some categorisation. I see people referring to the persecution of Jason Arday as a 'mob', or as comparable to a social media pile-on. It was actually an elite campaign carried out by media actors with huge power and reach.

The Labour government publishing this just two weeks after bringing in a nationwide toilet ban for trans people and two weeks before their trans section 28 comes into effect in English schools was certainly a fucking choice petition.parliament.uk/petitions/76...
The government recognises the devastating impact of Section 28 of the Local Government Act (1988) on LGBT+ people in the UK. There is no place for discriminatory legislation in the UK, where all people, no matter their background or LGBT+ identity, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and to enjoy full inclusion in society.

So why is the UK Like This when it comes to trans people? 1) It's far more centralised and its elite is much more highly concentrated; they get the same brainworms quickly, then use the central government to do awful things quickly. 2) The elite are very aristocratic. >>
