Today I have been at UoN for 12 months, 5 months of which I have been "at risk of redundancy". Despite the School I am in not making any redundancies, they actually need to recruit to lower the staff-student ratio for accreditation, I am one of 7 SVMS academics in a pool with people form another...

My poor boy has had surgery today to remove a lipoma. It was so big the nurse said it would make a perfect breast implant and they wished he had two... Proper zoned out now and uncomfortable, but so glad to have him hope. I've got a pic of the lipoma for those that want to see...

One of my first jobs out of uni was fishing for oysters around the sewage outfalls in the Solent and testing for E. coli and Salmonella. Best of luck!

I think there needs to be a UK academic publishing server that provides permanent email addresses for researchers to use as corresponding authors. That way, people don't lose access when they move or leave an institution, and reviewer invitations can continue to be sent to a stable address #MicroSky

I grow chillis every year to make my own sauces, I love hot food. I've previous grown habaneros, Scotch bonnets, Jalapeños and sweet peppers. I've gone up a level and grew Carolina Reapers and used my first one tonight in a chilli... they are HOT. Literally sweating from the spice!

I mean the "DEI" rhetoric demonstrates the influence of this type of thought process leaking over from the US. They're "holding people to account" who have very little impact on a very small % of people, while giving those who have huge influence a free pass.

I cant be the only to see the bigger problem with how Jason Arday has been treated? We have the media, public etc who support proven liars in politics and public life who consistently spread disinformation act as if they are right for pursing a story of an academic who *may* have plagiarised.

Am I being impatient or is this unreasonable? Submitted a manuscript in July 2025, 2 rounds of review then transferred to another of their journals with reviewers comments (R1 accepted, R2 minor comments). We made the changes and re-submitted ~3 months ago.. heard nothing since. #MicroSky

we were able to show this is possible. This could open up a new area of research to study AMR in infection relevant environments in vitro and get a much better understanding of how AMR evolves, is acquired and expressed, leading to better optimised treatment of infections to limit AMR..(6/7).
