All my Italian relatives do this and it makes me absolutely CRAZY since they also call Sprite "Spee-rai-tuh" to disambiguate when necessary! So just stick to that word for Sprite all the time!

But... he is the literal head of state for the UK and commonwealth countries such as Canada. He's even on our coinage. I'm not exactly a fan of the monarchy, but at least for now he is our head of state.

How to lobby Trump: Matthew Moroun, a Detroit billionaire, opposes a new bridge connecting Michigan with Canada that would compete with one that he owns. On Monday, Moroun met with @HowardLutnick, who then called Trump. Trump then threatened to stop the opening of the new bridge.

Watch the video as a recklessly driven cheap car careens around and a gang of armed thugs spring out to menace an innocent civilian, like a kidnapping or robbery or murder-for-hire. It looks like organized crime taking place in a third-world country, because it is.

The official policy of the government of the United States of America is that they will murder anyone they want, that they will tell any lie necessary to justify that murder, and that no one who resists them has any rights they are bound to respect. /1

I just watched the shooting video. It's a horrific beating and execution in the middle of the street. If local and state officials don't move to arrest everyone involved for murder, they need to resign. Making arrests will de-escalate the situation. Do nothing and this is going to explode.

Trump demanding control of Greenland—which the US already has access to—is based on multi-layered lies. Threatening NATO allies to get it undermines the Western alliance. I did a point-by-point breakdown of Trump's aggressive letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Støre about the Nobel and Greenland.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this: America's problems are solved problems. Just not here. What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵
Screenshot of a data visualization titled “The Cost of American Exceptionalism,” subtitled “What would change if the U.S. matched the OECD average?” The page explains that each card shows how outcomes would change if the U.S. matched the average of 31 peer democracies. Below, a section labeled “Economy & Inequality” displays eight cards comparing U.S. figures to OECD averages. Highlights include: +$19K per household per year in redistributed income and +$96K in redistributed wealth if the top 1% matched OECD shares; a 71% lower CEO-to-worker pay ratio (from 354× to 101×); 50 million more workers with union coverage; 26 million more people with health insurance; $2.1 trillion saved annually in healthcare spending; $691 less per person per year in prescription drug costs; and intergenerational economic mobility being twice as high. Each card shows the U.S. value alongside the OECD average.
