While other outlets were calling Musk a mercurial genius, MAD Magazine had the journalistic courage to let me call him a bigot. Twice. #SatireMatters
"Free Speeches On The Beaches" appeared in the April 2023 issue of MAD Magazine. The parody of Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches discussed Musk decision to sell blue check marks and called him out for turning Twitter into a cesspool of bigotry. The illustrations are by Marc Palm. This is a single panel from a one-page parody of The Apprentice called "The Oligarch." The full version can be seen in the MAD Magazine issue #43.

A silhouetted figure that appears to be Donald Trump asks Elon Musk to show what he did for this week's task of redesigning the American flag. Musk says "My flag design represents America after my troop of programmers *fix* all of the countries vital systems." The flag resembles a Nazi flag, but instead of showing a swastika in the center circle, it instead has a "404 Error" message.

The article was written by Matt Cohen and illustrated by Hermann Mejia.

Quite unusual for the BBC to be publishing a piece on the release of an indie game that has garnered little interest & wasn’t developed in the UK, but then you see it’s a game by Jonathan Blow and you remember he’s pro-MAGA, anti-diversity and generally very right-wing, so it makes a bit more sense

The point is not that if you pander to the LLM then you *might* remove *some* of the most egregious sources of hallucination. The point is that LLMs cannot analyse data in the way that humans can, no matter how much you pander. And that outputs that you cannot easily verify are worthless.

David Allsopp @doublehelix.bsky.social · 16h
I used this article recently to remind people at work of the limitations of LLMs, and one response was "if you changed the labels to Country A and Country B then the results would be better". I think they would just be not so obviously wrong. Which is probably worse.

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.
