It's difficult to convey to people who haven't been paying attention that every single thing they are reading about the immigrant concentration camps has been happening in U.S. jails and prisons since their origin. People were being waterboarded at Auburn prison in the 1850s.

I went to undergrad with Melat Kiros and I remember at one point attending a political workshop or symposium of some kind with Melat, looking over at her in the school van we were in on our way back to campus, and having a hunch that she'd probably be successful in politics one day. Glad I was right

House hunting — struck by how my family’s geographic mobility even within SoCal is constrained by the extent to which local govts seem welcoming. We (queer parents) don’t want to raise kids in a school district where we can’t trust that leaders will support our family, which rly reduces our options

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities. Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention. The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
