#InverteFest announcement: The December art book will be our 8th and last edition. We've been doing this since 2024 but my real life responsibilities have changed. We might revive the idea in the future in one form or another, but no promises. If you want in, this is your last chance.

You can't be branding large numbers of accounts as "rude" and defaulting to hiding their posts, suspending people aggressively on tenuous interpretations of posts, and then with the other side of your mouth "well if you're so bothered about transphobia you're welcome to Do Your Own Moderation"

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a beetle is on the phone in his house. He says, “hey man— for the party tonight… don’t bring any poop.” Panel 2: on the other end of the call is a dung beetle. He responds, “really? You sure?” Panel 3: shrugging towards another dung beetle, the first dung beetle says, “he says they’re good on poop.” Somewhat incredulous, the second dung beetle says, “I just rolled it!” He is leaning against a mostly out of frame huge ball of poop.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

Split-screen phone call scene. Peg, a call center employee at Dracula Costume Warehouse, takes a call from a customer. "Dracula Costume Warehouse, my name is Peg. How can I help you?" she says. On the other line we see our man in his Dracula costume with the teeth stuck in his mouth. He lets Peg know what the issue is, "Hay Pehg, I cahn't geht da teef oud."

Princeton finally handed off some advance copies for the 2nd Edition of my wasp book, and they look phenomenal! Thank you everyone for your exceptional patience! Go order it right now!! press.princeton.edu/books/paperb...
A photo of me (a white woman with long brownish hair wearing glasses and a dark blue shirt) holding an advance copy of my book "The Social Wasps of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean: Second Edition" in front of an old wooden railing and some lush sassafras leaves. There is a big illustration of a bald-faced hornet on the cover.

This photo is slightly misleading, since it was taken by my mom a year ago in 2025, immediately before we noticed the major printing errors in the plate series that required us to completely redo the printing from scratch. My joy is nonetheless real, and I feel justified in using this photo since I never posted it the first time around. It's all good now!

If people in the United States wish to return to being a wealthy, influential, privileged country, we need imprisonments of the people responsible for our decline, to show that laws still apply, and significant restructuring of our Constitution to install safeguards.

Humaning.
A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a Northern Cardinal and American Goldfinch perch above a busy crowd in a city, looking down. The cardinal says "It's a nice day to go humaning." The goldfinch says "Just look at them. Majestic." In panel 2, a close-up of the two birds. The cardinal says "Nobody tells you that you'll reach a certain age and suddenly get into humaning. I hit 3 years old, and then bam."The birds are looking out over the crowd scene. In panel 3, the cardinal says "Their calls sound funny to us, but each one has a unique meaning." Below, people are saying various things: "I'm tired." "Where's my phone?" "I'd murder a burrito." In panel 4, the birds look down excitedly at a man walking by. The cardinal says "Wait, is that a guy who got dressed in the dark and put his shirt on inside out and backwards?" And the goldfinch exclaims, "Holy... that's a lifer!"

the more you learn about local [recent] history the more disappointed you get. if you're gonna open a hotel near a historical park, why destroy the 200+ year old structure on site???
screenshot of a tiny photo of a small red building.

photo Ron Turner 2011 satellite imagery of a family farm adjacent to an interstate highway and an RV dealership
the property consists of multiple structures, but the distillery is the most eastern one, behind the home. 2013 satellite imagery of the same property. all of the original buildings have been removed, though the trees remain. a hotel has been built to the north of former distillery, and a tractor supply store. 2025 satellite imagery, the location of the distillery is overgrown and unused. well, fuckin THANKS, i guess????
