EU Ministers discuss Schengen this week over a crisis that never threatened Europe's free-movement area: no one leaves Ceuta without a border check. Instead, the EPP & far-right allies use this manufactured crisis whose price was paid by real lives to attack Spain's different stance to migration.

The EPP and ECR partisan hackery over Ceuta is cynical, dumb and self-sabotage from governments that might face similar trouble soon. But the Pikachu shocked face reactions at politics happening when it comes to an increasingly state-like EU is also a bit tiring.

Seen from abroad it's hard to make sense of what happened to Starmer. Big majority, centrist, fairly united party, no obvious blunders -- and somehow it went off the rail in just a few years. Political scientists will have their work cut out on this one.

Something symbolic about Keir Starmer's resignation speech with the EU anthem in the background: much of UK's recent political instability came fm inability to accept being a normal European country, not a global power; & many of the limits on what Labour cd do in power flowed fm Brexit's econ harm.
