Schools with high retention (strong relationships & culture) tend to have more experienced staff & bigger costs. In areas of lower funding gaps are exacerbated. Teach them how to read widely, structure/scaffold notes, discuss and debate - don’t assume they’ll just do it! Lots of paragraph tasks before setting them off on full essays - they’ll do much better when you finally set them. 110
