We have a teenager in our house. They've arrived home from a school event &, as I dished up our parental tea, asked to have a second dinner. Said teenager is now outraged they are expected to eat a plate of roasted vegetables with halloumi. Touché teenage food monster. Touché.

One of my new #ITT #historyteacher s made me well up a bit today when they said they'd really enjoyed the first two weeks of the #PGCE because the teaching sessions had challenged them and made them think deeply about #history as well as #teaching and they hadn't expected that. 🥹

Today I enjoyed a picnic in the park with colleagues (teachers & TAs) from my first teaching role. It's been 17 years since I left that school & most of them are long since retired from the profession. They helped forge so much of my professional identity & continue to be a huge blessing.

This is fascinating. As a former HoS I would suggest timing also comes into play. Often the boys in my sixth form cohorts would see significant improvement in their attainment across yr13 when compared to their end of Yr12 attainment. Predictions are made at start of yr13 based on Yr12 outcomes.

I'm working through a series of preparation tasks for next year. Last year our subject advisory group mentors came up with an idea to better support new mentors. Just made it & it's a brilliant idea. I'm really proud of the co-creation approach we take to our #ITT curriculum & #mentor development.

Reminded today of why I encourage #ITT beginning teachers to have a go at lesson activities they give to pupils I've made a new support resource for next year & decided to make a model completed version. In the process of completing it, I discovered lots of holes in original version! #learning!

100% A significant proportion (½ -⅔) of applications I receive from #ITT #historyteacher s these days mention Horrible Histories as their gateway into loving history. Do they think HH should be the basis of #HistoryEducation? Of course not. But it was the thing that got them started.
