A 10K contribution and a $900 million return. The scale of the graft in Homeland Security is a) off the charts and b) possible because no-one believes they will face any accountability

You see, the benevolent dictator is more efficient, but only if he acts in my interests. What happens then, when there is a benevolent dictator who acts on behalf of others and brings harm to me? How do we prevent that? Oh, I guess you haven't read that far yet.

It would be a monumental improvement for America, but especially for the Republican Party, if we elected the President through a plurality vote.

Vought is breaking the law but he is not “going rogue.” At his confirmation hearings, Vought told Republicans he would do this and they voted for him anyway. If they want to stop him, they still can via impeachment. They won’t.

The post pandemic period has produced a surging amount of millionaire households. Our collective net worth has gone from $109 trillion to $174 trillion. People don't like to hear this because it adds nuance to the wealth inequality debate.

The US already got a do over. A mulligan. A second chance. Much of the world, especially US allies, were ready to write off Trump’s first term as a fluke. The American people’s choice to put him back in power—as a convicted felon, after an openly bigoted, anti-democracy campaign—showed it was not.

Trump already won the 2024 election — not because I voted for him but because clearly many voters (unlike me!!!) did not view January 6 etc etc as deal-breakers. But he has become incredibly unpopular as his broken promises on the cost of living have come home to roost.

The study in this paper is not nearly strong enough to support the claim and it's driving me nuts. Measured at the congressional district level the paper says it shifted the vote to Harris by 1.5 percent but it doesn't hold at the county level! Not particularly robust.

Generally people do not have coherent policy ideas because they are never induced to consider contradictions or feasibility or whatever. Philip Converse's work on this in the 1960s is seminal. Weirdly everyone in politics pretends like political scientists didn't figure this out 60+ years ago.

as soon as there's any left victories you start to get this kind of triumphalist and contemptuous language about the rest of the Democratic Party, followed by whining when the rest of the Democratic Party responds. it happened with Bernie in early 2020.
