Leaving aside the wrong-headedness of abstaining on this vote, I'm quite uncomfortable with the fact that our Foreign Minister effectively used this UN vote for populist politicking ends of his own party in election campaigning, instead of putting country ahead of party as a professional should do.

Made it to the local RSA at Piha. Where I am it has been pea soup for the last 4 days. Above the mist line in a rain forest. It is a very local weather thing at above 200m or so.

Looking at Lion Rock from the Piha RSA. This would be quite a hood spot on a sunny day.

Heard some stories about modern Armenia this week. A friend has been there again on a family visit. Cafes & serious culture in Yerevan. And more English speakers too. The government seems to have lost the plot a bit but seems like the grass roots cultural capital is still strong.

I did 4 cities in 4 weeks & ferries each time. Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington & Auckland back in June / July which is winter here. Auckland has 10 ferries. Dunedin has a nice ferry lady with a dog & a small boat so that was the most expensive but great fun.

Follow the Tour Aotearoa routes. It links known trails with lesser used roads for safety reasons. There are cycleways around Auckland city that i am back on at the moment. And in Wellington there is a nice round the city ride to do there. Start downtown up to Petone then down to Pencarrow.

South Island has less people. I still love Alps2Ocean after 4+ years of riding part of it nearly every week. But there are 33 great rides & many others.

Southern Rail Trail now links up with many other rides in the Southern region. That one us fairly easy but add on Lake Dunstan & some other trails & you can keep going for a long time.

In some good news. I needed an x ray for a medical thing and i went to a hospital radiology department. They were very responsive and helpful. The NZ healthcare system is very stressed but some great staff still doing their best work. One of my better recent experiences. Big cheer for them.
