Throwback to when I got so annoyed at the destruction of a shed (and of misuse of my friends) I co-authored a whole article about the contemporary archaeology of dig houses: doi.org/10.1558/jca....
A decrepit shed next to two more recently built structures and a firepit. The vegetation is brown and there are big agricultural fields behind the structure. It's the notorious "chicken shed," a building that was torn down at Catalhoyuk.

Because: a) you don't know Jason Arday yet feel comfortable with your armchair diagnosis of him, b) its none of your business. c) its ghoulish and exploitative for you to be stripping his skin off his dead body to establish whether he was "autistic enough" for you to stop pestering him.

This was exactly what I thought when I read it, and Im glad someone had the better understanding of the methods to put it down, and so clearly. Kaufmann is so consumed by his desire to make his point that woke extremism has polluted the lily white waters of Canadian academia with "those" people.
The paper makes the following observation about Canada Research Chairs: “The average h-index of publication impact for Black or Indigenous chairs is 18, for female chairs is 28, and for White or Asian males is 38.” Leaving aside issues about how the researchers assigned ethnicity/indigeneity, based on this observation, the paper says that “EDI hiring resulted in lost productivity equivalent to 10 to 15 per cent per “equity-deserving” (female, Black, Indigenous) Canada Research Chair between 2016 to 2025” and that “Across the wider tri-council agencies, EDI in the form of hiring discrimination and scholar-activist content costs the government an estimated $100 million per annum.”
The logic here seems to be as follows:
· H-index is a useful and appropriate measure of individual scholar quality
· “Equity-deserving” CRCs have lower H-index scores than others
· Any move to hire groups with lower H-index scores is a deliberate loss of quality whose value can be measured
· Hiring more “equity-deserving” CRCs is costly and reduces quality.
Note, though, that this entire construction is predicated on point one – the H-Index is an appropriate metric by which to compare individual professors’ scholarly output - being true. However, as anyone with the tiniest amount of experience in bibliometrics will tell you, it is not. There are many reasons for this but let me just give you the two most important ones.
An H-index, as you perhaps know, is a single-integer measure of scholarly output: a researcher has an H-index of h if they have published h papers that have each been cited at least h times. As should be blindingly obvious, H-index is inextricably correlated with age. An individual’s H-index ceiling is simply the number of papers published. Older scholars have had more time to accumulate publications than younger ones, therefore their H-index ceiling is higher. Ceteris paribus, given two scholars of identical talent and publication habits, the older one is …

I've noticed a pattern with some old white men. If I say something unfamiliar to them, they assume I'm ignorant/wrong and tell me what they think is correct. They never ask a question, or wonder if there's something they don't know. They assume they own knowledge and I'm an interloper.

This wasn’t the first protest we’ve had in response to the ICE incident at Bohrer Park and it won’t be the last. Just as ICE can’t operate on state property thanks to recently passed laws, we want the city of Gaithersburg to prohibit ICE from using their property as well.

Today, just outside of Bohrer Park, we protested ICE terrorizing our communities and the city of Gaithersburg’s inaction in the face of that terror. (Gaithersburg, MD - August 22, 2026)
A sign in bold white and red that says, “Fuera ICE.” A protester holds a sign that says, “City Hall, Protect Your Neighbors!” Protesters stand on the corner with signs that say, “ICE Kills” and “ICE, Stop Kidnapping Our Neighbors!” A protester holds a sign written on hot pink posterboard that says, “A neighbor was kidnapped here.”
