RIP Louisa Gag, a transit planner who dedicated her career to making Boston’s streets safer for cyclists & pedestrians. She was killed while biking to work on July 9, 2026. Street safety improvements shouldn’t be delayed, watered down, or treated as a political inconvenience. Safe streets now!!

I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example. www.npr.org/2026/04/16/n...
Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.

"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."

Older drivers are uniquely dangerous to others, killing at higher rates than new teen drivers. We have to make it so seniors can live independent, and socially-integrated lives without driving. Transit-oriented multi-use development is good for climate, good for safety
NHTSA data from 2022. Bar chart by 5-year age brackets. Per 100 Million miles traveled. Young drivers crash most often, but older drivers kill at higher rates, with rates rising at 70-74 and sharply increasing at 80-84.

I was fine with this article until the following:
we’re taking inspiration from a man who allegedly helped assassinate Osama bin Laden?
JFK was assassinated. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The man who orchestrated the greatest mass murder in our country, and continued to spread and encourage murder of "infidels" from his hiding place wasn't "assassinated". Please.

I hate using dictionary definitions for things but the dictionary definition of "assassination" is "murder by sudden or secret attack often for political reasons". In no way does the word "assassinate" only apply to people you like or agree with. To be more glib than this topic deserves, there is an entire video game series about this concept
Avatar for jmack175
If you’re going to apply "assassination" purely by dictionary definition, then you’d have to call a lot of wartime killings "assassinations" too, which we don’t, because the word carries moral weight. Using it for bin Laden ignores that and adds a layer of victimhood that isn’t appropriate.

Words aren’t used in a vacuum. And the definition of "assassinated" according to AI implies an unjust or wrongful killing of a legitimate political or influential figure. Using that word for Osama bin Laden carries a completely different implication than just saying he was killed in a military operation. His killing was neither wrongful or unjust.

That was a poor choice of words, and your point could have been made just fine without it sir.
