Has the Booker shortlist piqued your interest in M John Harrison? If so, do NOT listen to Explanatory Collapse, a podcast covering the entirety of his published work in chronological order. It's over 63 hours long, it's just one guy and he seems to view the project as a means of self-flagellation

walking into the co-op after a modest walk in bright cold, to find it playing the long dissolving outro of 'All of My Heart'. made everything a little more unreal than it already was.

I haven't seen nearly enough discussion of this incredible, very in-depth piece of reporting on Palantir. We tend to talk about the company as if they're some all-powerful panopticon, but the reality is they're a sub-par data integration middleware company with better branding and lobbying.

A fundamental principle is that we *never* cede ground to the far right. If they steal our terms and concepts - which they do all the time - we seize them back and explain the reality behind them. In fact we can leverage their misuse of our terms, to refocus attention on what they really mean.

I love how "center left" in the US and UK will do moral panics about the internet and try to limit kids' access to social media but not do anything about the material conditions of children's lives or how the predatory surveillance economy works, it's such a beautiful expression of dead centrism.
