Yes, computers do everything at our company but don't worry, there's always a human reviewer. Nothing goes out the door without one of our highly trained shruggers briefly glancing at it and clicking Approve

Same reason that IQ isn’t particularly meaningful except in broad ranges. Intelligence can be broken down into a bunch of specific and not-always-correlated abilities

It turns out that attempting to break into an argument that’s going nowhere by pointing out that the participants haven’t defined their terms isn’t universally welcomed

ideally i would love to support minority rights but in this case the minority in question is a minority of the population, so it just isn't worth it, mathematically speaking

You have to tag personal anecdotes #unreality because otherwise the person reading the post might not realise it didn't happen to them, which is basically gaslighting.

#homestuck #beyondcanon #upd8 Despite my concern over the Vrissy-shaped plot hole, the Rose/Dirk commentary did have some good, thought-provoking stuff. I like how Rose can't stand Ly'lac, because Ly is just Rose without any particular grace or pretense. Jealous, depressed, desperate for love.

Seer of Hope @dexdavican.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

At least they clarified that Dirk was the one who put Jade to sleep, and that’s what was happening at the end of JadeTok? Would have been nice if that were spelled out earlier

Seer of Hope @dexdavican.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

I’m used to giving Homestuck the benefit of the doubt since it almost always pulled through in the original story, but this was jarring Admittedly Rose isn’t above lying, but there’d be no point here because Dirk was the one who told her to look at Candy

Nancy 9/8/26

Nancy’s at school…. Her teacher asks her a math problem: if Nancy had three cupcakes, and Sluggo asked her for one, how many would she have left? Nancy’s reply is “three.”

#beyondcanon #homestuck #upd8 Wait, Rose doesn't recognize Vrissy? But she saw Candy, back in the Meat Epilogue. This doesn't make sense. Did that get retconned?

It’s heartening in a way, confirmation of our shared humanity. It’s also infuriating, because it presents the false hope that they might learn

Seer of Hope @dexdavican.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

As for why people can be “generally good” despite all that, we’re a cooperative species, even as we’re also a competitive species. Most of us value other people, or at least easy frictionless coexistence, and so internalize hundreds of situational strategies through observation and experience.

Seer of Hope @dexdavican.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

If I as an autistic person miss or dismiss a social cue, other people have to quickly judge whether I’m being Intentionally Rude, Unintentionally Rude, Contextually Polite Enough, Actually Right, Joking, Momentarily Stupid, or Enduringly Stupid. Each option requires application of a different rule.

100

Seer of Hope @dexdavican.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

The fact that some people will fall short of, test the limits of, or outright ignore rules, and that different people relate differently to different rules, massively complicates rule-making even within groups whose circumstances are very similar. Then add in the limits of communication and insight

Seer of Hope @dexdavican.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

Lots of folks focusing on the second question so I’ll focus on the first: People vary too widely in nature and circumstance. If one person has always lived with the risk of starvation and another hasn’t, their needs and intuitions will differ. Then add in core personality differences.

#homestuck #beyondcanon Rereading the "selfish adults" conversation, it really reads like Jade's seen a therapist and internalized the language, but is using it solely for the appearance of accountability without intent to change anything or give anything up

Something you very quickly learn in keeping abreast of Canadian labour politics is that folks who argue "essential workers" have a moral obligation to provide their labour regardless of compensation are 100% aware of what that line of reasoning implies – they just think it's rude to say it out loud.

#homestuck #beyondcanon For some reason I'm only just now thinking about how SBURB is not only a reproduction method for universes, but also a reproduction method for gods. The species Rose and Dirk have created *will* have heroes, but it also *may* beget gods. And it's the only way they know how.

Some friends are teaching their baby ASL as an early bridge to speech and they made the mistake of teaching her “want” as a concept. Now she wanders around the house signing “want” all the time as an expression of unfocused desire. They fucked up and made the baby invent the opposite of Buddhism.
