My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.
Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

For people saying "but Discord can't do anything bc the governments are the ones pushing for that" - keep in mind that the *tech companies* are the ones who are lobbying for that kind of law to allow them to collect and sell more data and thus profit - govts and techs are BOTH pieces of shit

2 things, in ascending order of importance: 1) Polls are Possibility but they don't vote; don't stop working. 2) El-Sayed has Massive support in a mid-west rust-belt state while vocally supporting transgender kids & adults/directly Dismissing claims that trans people are "dangerous." This makes me hopeful. This number is aspirational but nowhere near out of reach: a working professional could realistically cash out their 401k and buy off a public official. Owning a senator is more attainable for most Americans than home ownership.

I think the issue is that this kind of thing is obviously an autistic meltdown and a somewhat level-headed person will see it as such, but in leftist spaces what you see is people in that very gray aspergery zone having meltdowns while using words like praxis and normativity but it's just a meltdown

Ableism has been designed in such a way that if you take it seriously as an axis of oppression, you get labeled, in some way, mentally disabled (e.g. stupid, crazy, "narcissistic"). It's a circular argument to dismiss disabled people and anti-ableism out of hand.

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:
Erin Redwing
@realizingerin
I went to an rationalist/EA Al doomer event last night with the goal of meeting someone who could calmly explain to me the argument for how they get to the conclusion that Al will kill everyone.
Because these are rationalists, I expected to find people who could lay out a serious extinction pathway, walk through the assumptions and intermediate steps, identify choke points where negative pathways could potentially be regulated, and entertain disagreement about where their assumptions might break down.
My experience was the exact opposite.
The people I spoke to seemed psychologically unable to entertain the possibility that their conclusion (that Al literally kills everyone, which was a point that many would not even budge on) might be wrong.
Their most extreme conclusion was treated as an axiom.
I had multiple people walk out of conversations with me when I questioned their inevitable extinction premise.
At one point during a panel, the moderator asked everyone in the audience who was still skeptical of Al doom to raise their hands. About half the room did. He then told all of the skeptics to leave the panel and go with one of the speakers, who would answer their questions separately. They filtered out all the skeptics, and continued the panel only with the subset who accepted their extreme position.
I genuinely felt like a heretic just for questioning whether superintelligent Al inevitably leads to the extinction of humanity, or entertaining the possibility that the future might actually turn out well.
That does not mean Al safety is fake. Obviously there are serious questions about rapidly advancing Al systems and what happens as they become much more capable. Those are exactly the conversations I went there hoping to have.
But what I encountered was an apocalyptic death cult. These people are not rational. They are deeply afraid, they reinforce that fear in one another, and they have become so emotionally committed to apocalypse

In a time where lesbian art is under enormous pressure to be accommodating to the heterosexual view, shrinking it until it's invisible is just not interesting to me. We should be louder, and prouder, and refuse to go down without showing the complex and beautiful lives of sapphic love.

Calling lesbians "illiterate" for criticizing an industry that consistently invisibilizes and diminishes our desire is bootlicking. The fact that it's always sapphic art has to bear the burden of portraying nuanced/literary (read: non-sexual) love between women is purity politics.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a small group of friends is hanging out indoors. Two guys are on the couch, holding video game controllers. A third guy steps into the room and says, “can someone move their car?” Panel 2: he continues, “there’s an impossible device blocking me.” In the driveway, a beige car is parked in front of a glossy, unfathomable biomechanic vehicle. Panel 3: back in the video game room, a spindly, three-eyed alien creature steps from across the room with a car key in hand. The alien says, “that’s me, bro— I’ll move.” One of the guys on the couch throws up his hands because the alien is blocking the TV.
