I have lots of thoughts—an alarming amount are about Taylor Swift. And sighthounds. And urbanism/public transportation. We can do better if we decide to. Also, go St. Louis CITY SC!

If you're having trouble visualizing 57 men ignored an attack on another human, this might help. 57 people is 11 basketball teams + 2 5 football teams + 2 A school bus full of children Four 12-person felony juries, plus nine people. That's how many men failed to help this poor woman. #Cornell7

Transit agency websites should have a “How to pay your fare” page that’s linked prominently from the home page. When I get to a new city, I don’t need instructions on how to ride the bus or train; that’s the same everywhere. I need instructions on paying, which is different everywhere.

It’s remarkable how many people can move on a street when those people don’t feel the need to always take a massive car with them. Mobility in cities is about space.
Busy European street with buses filled with people in a long line of people on bikes, waiting for the light to change in a separated, protected bike lane. Imagine if all those people or each in a separate car.

It's amazing how some people dehumanize others simply for choosing a transportation method that doesn't involve a car. They also hate traffic and other drivers, while simultaneously seething with rage at anyone walking, cycling, or proposing we fund better public transit.

Driving a car for errands is so stressful. Biking (on protected infrastructure) is not. More Americans should have the ability to decide how to complete each trip w/o car dependency forced on them. 🚲 ❤️

Sometimes the WAR ON WALKING results in no sidewalks at all. Sometimes they put “something” in — but does that really make things walkable for anyone except those without any other choices? The #WARonWALKING takes many forms, but it’s always about making things comfortable for vehicles, not people.
Image of a wide concrete overpass with a huge truck travelling dangerously close to a thin, uncomfortable looking concrete “sidewalk.” The text says “Don’t buy the lie that there’s a war on cars. They’ve been waging a war on walking for a century.” Tagline at the bottom says the Urban Truth Collective. #UrbanTruth #WarOnCars

When cities force people on bikes onto infrastructure built exclusively for cars, conflicts are inevitable. People on bikes don’t break rules to spite motorists, they sometimes bend them because self-preservation always overrides traffic laws designed for vehicles they aren't driving.

Good infrastructure is like a good bike lock. You can't stop a determined thief, but you can make it much harder and more inconvenient. You can't prevent all vehicular violence, but you can drastically reduce reckless driving through physical design.
