In months when the BLS jobs number is weak, the Trump White House points to the ADP jobs number. In months when the ADP number is weak, it does the opposite. But looking at the long-term picture, *both* BLS *and* ADP show a massive slowdown under Trump's destructive policies:

Wage growth just keeps slowing. And yes, wages are rising slower than prices, and no, that's not how economic growth is meant to work.
Line chart titled "Nominal wage growth is slowing" showing year-over-year growth in average hourly earnings of private-sector workers. Wage growth has declined steadily from a peak of 5.9% in early 2022 to 3.0% in September 2026, the slowest rate in the series. This nearly 3 percentage point drop over four and a half years indicates significantly cooler labor market conditions, with the deceleration accelerating in recent months as growth fell from the 3.7-3.9% range in 2025 to the low 3% range currently.

Big picture: Despite a decent one-month number for September, the overall ADP jobs data shows a big slowdown in private-sector job creation under Trump. And while some might argue it's because of low unemployment, unemployment was lower in 20 months before Trump, when job creation was stronger.
